President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev participated in the conference “Sustainable Development and Security in the Eurasian Space” on Monday in Astana. In his speech, the Head of State noted that in the context of unprecedented geopolitical instability, the role of diplomacy becomes crucial, Kazinform News Agency has learnt from the Akorda press service.
“Against the backdrop of profound transformations in geopolitics and geo-economics, global climate and demographic challenges, threats of new pandemics, the intensification of the arms race, technological progress, including the introduction of artificial intelligence, issues of strategic stability and sustainable development are becoming of paramount importance to all of us. The conclusion is obvious - the international community needs détente, a new positive agenda to resume constructive dialogue. Therefore, the idea of comprehensive, indivisible Eurasian security can become a conceptual basis for building a multipolar, just, and sustainable world order,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The Head of State told participants of the conference about the implementation of a course of large-scale reforms in all spheres of public life in Kazakhstan. In his opinion, a fundamental innovation of political reforms was the inclusion in the Basic Law of a provision limiting the President’s mandate to a single seven-year term.
“Such a norm does not exist in any country of the so-called ‘post-Soviet space’ and even beyond. In my opinion, one seven-year presidential term is sufficient to implement the election platform and reforms, given that the President is a state manager hired by the people. I am convinced that the rule of law and order should prevail in our country. Only in this way can proper conditions be ensured for the further implementation of reforms, as well as attracting investments into Kazakhstan’s economy. Law and order are the foundation for building a Just Kazakhstan. The demand for justice has always been everywhere, and Kazakhstan is no exception. All our reforms, no matter how difficult they are to advance, are irreversible, no one will be able to stop them, and even more so, reverse them,” emphasized President Tokayev.
The President also pointed out the important role of the education sector in strengthening friendly ties between the peoples of Kazakhstan and Russia. According to him, more than 60 thousand students from Kazakhstan are currently studying in Russia.
“Today, branches of well-known Russian universities are successfully operating in our country. The opening of a branch of the Moscow State University of Foreign Affairs in Kazakhstan is planned,” said the Head of State.
During the plenary session, Assistant to the President of Russia Vladimir Medinsky read out a greeting from the Russian President Vladimir Putin to the conference participants. In his speech, MSIIR Rector Anatoly Torkunov thanked the Kazakh side for organizing the event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the university.
“We did not accidentally choose the topic of the conference, combining traditional issues of multilateral cooperation in the field of economy and security with new challenges of the climate agenda, dynamic plots of energy development and transport infrastructure in the Eurasian space,” Anatoly Torkunov noted.
The conference brought together prominent Kazakhstani and Russian scientists, veterans of the diplomatic service, heads of government agencies, political scientists, and representatives of youth organizations.
