The President heard a report on the state of law and order in the country and the results of work in priority areas of oversight activities.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was informed about the progress of investigations by special prosecutors into criminal cases of particular importance that have caused a wide public outcry, affecting the interests of the state, as well as cases related to torture.
In total, special prosecutors have sent 55 criminal cases to court this year, and 112 people have been convicted. 80 cases are in progress. The damages compensated for cases investigated by special prosecutors amounted to 14.4 billion tenge.
In addition, the Head of State was provided with information on new approaches to finding criminal proceeds and prospects for their use for the country's economy. In total, property worth 105 billion tenge was seized in criminal cases, of which, in drug cases alone, prosecutors together with other law enforcement agencies seized assets worth almost 12 billion tenge.
The Prosecutor General reported on the work to return assets. Over two years, the prosecutor's office returned assets worth 850 billion tenge. These funds are used to build about 400 social and municipal facilities in various regions of the country. To date, 60 facilities have been completed.
It was separately noted that in order to implement the President's Address to the People of Kazakhstan and move to proactive support for business, work is underway to rename the Prosecutor General's Office. The new format will allow focusing on creating a favorable investment climate and long-term protection of the rights of entrepreneurs and investors.
The head of state instructed to continue work to ensure the rule of law in all areas and to establish the principle of "Law and Order" in society. He emphasized the importance of coordinating the activities of law enforcement and other government agencies in such areas as combating fraud, combating drug trafficking, preventing domestic violence, vandalism, and preventing unfounded criminal prosecution of businesses.
