
The President stated that the final decision on constitutional reform will be made by the citizens of our country during a national referendum.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a regular working meeting on parliamentary reform with the participation of State Advisor Yerlan Karin and Presidential Aide on Legal Issues Yerzhan Zhiyenbayev.
Erlan Karin informed the Head of State that at the January 9 meeting of the Working Group, basic approaches were developed for determining the status, powers, and functions of the future unicameral Parliament, as well as its interaction with other branches of government.
At the next meeting, scheduled for January 15, the new Parliament's powers in supporting the functioning of key state institutions will be discussed. Yerzhan Zhienbayev briefed the Head of State on new proposals from members of the Working Group and the public regarding constitutional reform. The Head of State emphasized the need to take into account all expressed opinions and initiatives.

Preparations for the fifth meeting of the National Kurultai in Kyzylorda were also discussed. The President approved the date for the Kurultai meeting, January 20, and issued a number of specific instructions regarding the organizational and substantive preparations for the upcoming important event.
