
During the meeting, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is a strategically important partner for Kazakhstan in implementing priority infrastructure and investment initiatives.
The head of state welcomed today's signing of the Partnership Framework Agreement, which will play a significant role in advancing sustainable economic development and strengthening regional cooperation. He also congratulated Zou Jiayi on his recent appointment as President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
"We highly appreciate the fact that Kazakhstan is the first country you visited in your new capacity. I believe this is a very positive sign, giving a significant boost to our bilateral cooperation. Together with the bank, we are implementing nine projects totaling over $2.6 billion. I am confident that all of them will become important elements of our future contacts and cooperation," noted Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Zou Jiayi reported that the AIIB has supported a number of major projects in the energy, transport, and social infrastructure sectors of Kazakhstan.
"First of all, I would like to thank you for your kind words and long-standing support of the AIIB. I am humbled by the trust Kazakhstan and other shareholders have placed in me. I will ensure the continuity of the bank's operations, building on the achievements of its first decade, and will also strive for progress to more quickly respond to the changing needs of our clients," the AIIB President said.
The parties noted significant potential for expanding joint activities. In the coming years, Kazakhstan intends to implement ambitious plans to modernize its infrastructure sector. AIIB is prepared to consider actively participating in these strategic initiatives.
Currently, funding is being provided for the construction of a multidisciplinary hospital in Kokshetau, a 220 MW wind farm, sections of the Zhezkazgan-Karaganda and Aktobe-Karabutak-Ulgaysyn highways, and a railway bypassing Almaty.
