President reviewed the development of the city of Alatau

The head of state arrived in the Almaty region on a working visit.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's working visit to the Almaty region began with a presentation on the development of the Alatau region.

The city's territory covers 88,000 hectares and is divided into four functional zones, which will be developed in stages until 2050. Growth points and priority development areas have also been identified, and a roadmap for the development of major infrastructure is being implemented. A constitutional law has been adopted, establishing a new governance model.

Today, the Gate City residential area is actively developing, boasting one "comfortable school." Five strategic enterprises operate in the city: Mareven Food, Knauf, Fruit Art, Dolce Pharm, and the Almaty Fan Plant.

Additionally, a pool of 53 investment projects totaling over 2 trillion tenge has been formed. Specifically, PepsiCo is building the largest potato processing plant in Central Asia, Mars Petcare is implementing the region's first modern pet food production facility, KHAN TENGRI BIOPHARMA is manufacturing pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, and Istkomtrans and G-Trans are forming a logistics cluster.

The Iconic Complex project, Alatau's flagship multifunctional complex, was presented to the head of state. One of the city's key developments will be built in the Gate District.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke at a meeting on the development of the city of Alatau.

As you know, two years ago I decided to create Alatau as a city of the future. This project is of strategic importance for the entire country. We intend to attract investment to Alatau to transform it into a new hub of business activity and innovation. Our citizens, especially future generations, will have great opportunities to work, live, and grow in this new city.

Therefore, the fundamental principles by which the city will develop were enshrined in the new Constitution. The Constitutional Law "On the Special Legal Regime of the City of Alatau" was signed. At this stage, a number of pressing issues must be discussed. It is necessary to summarize the work accomplished, identify operational objectives and long-term priorities. In short, it is necessary to outline a direction for further work, the Head of State said.

As he noted, all necessary conditions are being provided to expedite the resolution of key development issues in Alatau.

"We can already say that a solid legal foundation has been created for the city's high-quality development, including the establishment of tax incentives and simplified regulations for entrepreneurship. Furthermore, comprehensive protection of local business interests will be ensured, and a regulatory environment for the development of digital assets will be created. Thus, today Alatau can be called an 'accelerated development city' with a unique legal status," Tokayev stated.

Overall, the President noted, the region's development rates are good, and appropriate work is being carried out.

"The gross regional product (GRP) by the end of 2025 was 6.7 trillion tenge, an increase of 5.4%. For January-April of this year, the region ranked fifth in the short-term economic indicator. Efforts to attract investment are underway. Since the beginning of the year, 266.2 billion tenge have been invested in the region's economy. Industrial production volumes have reached approximately 900 billion tenge. Meanwhile, the potential of the agricultural sector remains underutilized. According to the results of the first four months of this year, the index of physical output of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries was 101.2%," the Head of State added.
