Commission blames Bakiyev for 30 Assassinations
A Kyrgyz government commission April 12 implicated former president Kurmanbek Bakiyev’s administration in 30 high-profile contract assassinations, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
Bakiyev’s rule from 2005-2010 could be called the bloodiest era in recent Kyrgyz history, said commission chairman Abdygany Erkebayev. His panel is investigating the June ethnic riots and Bakiyev-era assassinations.
The commission named various politicians, journalists and businessmen as likely victims of contract murders.
They include Osh newspaper editor Alisher Saipov (shot in October 2007), MP Ruslan Shabotoyev (kidnapped in September 2008; remains found one year later) and former Bakiyev chief of staff Medet Sadyrkulov (killed in an apparent traffic accident in March 2009), Central Asia Online.
