17.11.2011
The Almaty subway will be launched on December 1, KazTag reports, citing Deputy Akim of Almaty, Serik Seidumanov.
“On December 1, we are planning to open the subway. The second stage of construction has already begun, and we have already completed about 200 meters under Abai Street in the direction of Kalkaman. We will complete the second stage within two years, and people will be able to take a subway train from the Kalkaman satellite town to Rayimbek Street in Almaty. Right now, the eight stations cannot resolve traffic problems,” Serik Seidumanov said.
The cost for one trip on the Almaty subway will be 80 tenge, according to Aigul Yeshmagambetova, press secretary to AlmatyMetroKurylys, the subway construction company.
She said that initially a price range of between 75 tenge and 100 tenge was considered, but the 80 tenge tariff was finally approved by the city administration.
It is possible that following completion of the second stage when more stations are put into operation, the fare will be reconsidered, according to www.tengrinews.kz
