Almaty Oblast stages unique military drills
20.04.2012
The Shoshkala army training ground situated in the Almaty Oblast has been the venue for unusual wargames.
Certain ground force divisions, supported by artillery and helicopter gunships assaulted a populated area, destroyed a large armed gang and evacuated local residents.
This was the first time the Kazakh Armed Forces conducted such large-scale anti-terrorist exercises. An entire village was constructed for this purpose, with streets and office buildings.
As per the war games scenario, an armed group of 80 militants seized a border town to establish an autonomous district.
Kazakhstan’s Defense Minister Adilbek Dzhaksybekov observed the exercises.
He said Kazakhstan’s present-day armed forces of Kazakhstan are in solid shape, adding the ministry would continue to carry on improvements.
Dzhaksybekov said, “This is a process that never stops. Once you’ve stopped, you immediately fall behind, because weapons along with the organization of combat operations and research always require foresight”.
“Demands change and today's exercises were held in accordance with new requirements. Confronting terrorists and the utilization of technology, implies the Kazakh armed forces are growing constantly,” Caspionet wrote.
