Dzhakishev receives 2nd prison sentence
22.06.2012
An Astana court June 21 sentenced the imprisoned former president of Kazatomprom (Kazakhstan’s state-owned nuclear holding company) to 10 years in prison on a second conviction, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported. The court convicted Mukhtar Dzhakishev of large-scale swindling and illegal acquisition of state property.
Dzhakishev began serving a 14-year prison sentence in 2010 after being convicted of other corruption charges. The court allowed him to serve the new sentence concurrently, so that his total incarceration will not exceed 14 years.
Dzhakishev’s defence attorney plans to appeal the new conviction, Tengri News reported, according to Central Asia Online.
