Kazakhstani courts have convicted more than 300 defendants on terrorism and extremism charges since 2005, Security Council Deputy Secretary Kozy-Korpesh Dzhanburchin told Kazakhstanskaia Pravda in an interview published June 27.
In that period, authorities also prevented 46 terrorist acts and seized more than 200 firearms and more than 50 bombs, he added.
Fighting terrorism is not only a matter of using force, he said. “Every inhabitant of Kazakhstan must show vigilance, including refusing to submit to extremists’ ideological traps and incitement,” Central Asia Online wrote.
