Security Council held in Astana
15.11.2012
A meeting of the Security Council of Kazakhstan chaired by President Nursultan Nazarbayev has been held at the Ak Orda residence.
The development of the Caspian regions was one of the main issues discussed. The Atyrau and Mangistau oblasts are the key hydrocarbon producers. Apart from that, they are the only sea-gate to Kazakhstan. Particular attention should be paid to protecting the environment and biological diversity of the Caspian Sea as well as the prevention of water pollution, including from oil spills.
Nursultan Nazarbayev said, “What do we need to do to develop the region’s infrastructure? We need not just to make products, we need to export them to foreign markets. Infrastructure is a separate issue, including tourism and the environment of the Caspian region. We have to work out all these issues and our strategy in general,” Caspionet reports.
