Small earthquake strikes Almaty Oblast

    Almaty Oblast was hit with a 4.8-magnitude earthquake January 6 at 11.40pm, Today.kz reported January 7, citing the Emergency Situations Ministry press office.
    The epicentre was 282km northeast of Almaty. There were no reports of casualties or damage, CA-News.org said.
    The Central Asian region has been hit by a series of small earthquakes recently, none of which have caused major damage, according to Central Asia Online.
