Nazarbayev suggests restricting access for cars to downtown Almaty

Access should be restricted for cars to the center of Almaty, KazTag reports, citing President Nursultan Nazarbayev as saying on January 9.
“I have tasked Mr. Akhmetzhan Yessimov, the current Almaty akim, with restricting car access to the city center. (…) Those travelling from the suburbs should leave their private cars on the outskirts and rely on public transport to reach the city center”, the president said while handing out rewards for outstanding literature and arts at his Almaty-based residence on January 9.
He stressed Almaty needs to opt for more environmentally-friendly cars.
“Only cars with smallest possible exhaust should be allowed to be sold in Almaty (…) It is important to use only high-octane gasoline, and make sure car engines are properly serviced,” he said, according to www.tengrinews.kz.
