Military vehicles up for sale in Almaty

11.01.2013
Over 200 military vehicle units, including trucks and several Armored Reconnaissance Vehicles (ARVs) can be purchased in the Almaty area via an advertisement on the Kolesa.kz website, KazTAG reports.
“We sell military restored vehicles. ARVs are also on sale. On average, a GAZ-66 military truck sells for around $12-14 thousand. The price for an ARV depends on the package, but also does not exceed $14 thousand,” the seller told KazTAG by phone.
The site has a list of available vehicles: “GAZ-66, KamAZ-4310, ZIL-131, Ural-4320, Ural-375 and over 300 vehicles following restoration and full maintenance”. According to the site, most of the former military vehicles are in brand new condition.
Military experts believe that the ARVs can be useful not only for hunters but also for extremists for operations in remote areas or clashes with Kazakhstan's armed forces.
“The vehicle has a weak armor, but it can resist any basic weapons that our special forces are equipped with. Thanks to their speed and maneuver power, ARVs are not easy to shoot at with a grenade launcher. ARVs are also good off-road, which is important for criminals in case they have arms dumps and hideouts in remote areas, just like in case of the extremists in the Aktobe Oblast,” unnamed military experts said.
They added that “ARVs are easy to repair, and they can batter down cordons made of light vehicles and can be used for many other purposes”.
Military prosecutors announced they will perform an official inspection into the advertisements on the sale of military vehicles on Kolesa.kz, according to www.tengrinews.kz
