Piano-shaped concert hall to be built in Almaty
11.12.2013
Almaty is getting a new concert hall in less than one year. The design was presented last week, Tengrinews reports.
Director of the Almaty Urban Planning and Architecture Department, Zhanat Aitleu said the new 1000-seat venue would have a theater hall and two movie halls.
“The concert hall is being built in the Alatau District, which is to the west of Momishuly Street and to the north of Ryskulov Street. It will be surrounded by venues built for the Universiade-2017,” added Aitleu.
The construction of the latest cultural venue started in 2012, and is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2014.
“The Alatau district has not had this kind of building before. It is designed in the shape of a grand piano,” said the Director of Urban Planning Department. The concept for the new concert hall was designed with the idea that any concert venue of that sort requires a grand piano.
In March 2012, Director of the Almaty Department of Culture, Kairat Kulbayev said it was the first cultural venue to be built in Almaty in 20 years, www.tengrinews.kz wrote.
