Kazakhstan’s population reaches 17.17 million people in January

    Kazakhstan’s population on January 1, 2014 amounted to 17.165 million people, an increase from the beginning of 2013 by 1.5%, the Statistics Agency reports.
    Statistical data shows the population of the South Kazakhstan Oblast grew by 55.8 thousand people since the beginning of the year - up to 2.735 million people, the Almaty Oblast - 38.8 thousand to 1.99 million people, the Mangistau Oblast - 19.7 thousand to 587.4 thousand people, the Zhambyl Oblast - 15.1 thousand to 1.085 million people, the Kyzylorda Oblast - 13.7 thousand to 740.4 thousand people, the Atyrau Oblast - 12.7 thousand to 567.9 thousand people, the Aktobe Oblast - 13.1 thousand to 808.9 thousand people, the Karaganda Oblast - 7.1 thousand to 1.37 million people.
    The population of the North Kazakhstan Oblast continues to decline, however. During this period, the region’s population fell by 3.7 thousand to 575.7 thousand people.
    The population of Astana for 2013 grew by 36.2 thousand to 814.4 thousand people, Almaty - 32.3 thousand to 1.51 million people, KazTAG wrote.
