Breakthrough achieved at Caspian summit, Nazarbayev says

A breakthrough was achieved at the Caspian states’ summit in Astrakhan, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
He made the remarks following the summit on Sept. 29, Russia 24 news channel reported.
“We had a very deep and serious summit,” Nazarbayev said.
The president added that the summit demonstrated all Caspian countries’ intention to solve all the difficult issues.
“Today there was a breakthrough,” he stressed. “As a result of talks, we brought together our positions on key aspects of the Caspian littoral states’ activities, and discussed a number of regional issues.”
Nazarbayev said the summit’s results will surely give an entirely new impetus for reaching the main document – the convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea.
The president also said that the importance of the Caspian Sea for the littoral countries can hardly be overestimated.
“The entire region is growing rapidly,” Nazarbayev said, adding that the world’s attention to the the region, as one of energy and geological resources, is increasing.
Nazarbayev noted that a number of important documents were inked during the summit.
The president said that in particular, the singed documents covered security in the Caspian Sea, which is to be guaranteed by the littoral countries themselves not involving a third country.
He added that a document on the security of the Caspian Sea’s biological resources was also signed.
“Aside from that, under the agreements, it is planned to create circular motorways and railways around the Caspian Sea, which will help the Caspian littoral countries to reach other routes,” Kazakh president said.
Nazarbayev also welcomed Turkmenistan’s proposal for the creation of a permanent environmental forum on the Caspian Sea, Trend reports.
