President held meeting on plane crash near Almaty

An emergency meeting was held at the Akorda residence with participation of the Prime Minister, the leadership of the Presidential Administration, the secretary of the Security Council, the Attorney General, the chairman of the National Security Committee, the ministers of Internal Affairs, Information and Social Development, and of Health in connection with the passenger plane crash near the Almaty airport.

On behalf of the people of Kazakhstan and personally, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed condolences to the families of the crash victims. A minute of silence was held.

The President heard reports from Prime Minister Askar Mamin, Prosecutor General Gizat Nurdauletov, Interior Minister Yerlan Turgumbayev, and Health Minister Yelzhan Birtanov.

The Government, together with the akimats of Almaty and the Almaty region were instructed to provide financial assistance to the families of the victims in the amount of 4 million tenge. Comprehensive psychological and medical support will be provided to them too and to all the injured.

In connection with announcement of December 28 the day of national mourning, Tokayev ordered to lower the state flags and cancel all the entertainment events in the country.

The Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs were instructed, within the framework of the criminal case, to take measures to identify the causes and conditions that led to the crash, and to bring those responsible to liability, also to study the legality of private buildings in close proximity to the border of the Almaty airport.
