Central Asia and USA meets in C5+1 format

Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tileuberdi participated in the high-level С5+1 meeting with the foreign ministers of Central Asia and representatives of U.S. Administration.

The event was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjiddin Mukhriddin, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov, Deputy National Security Advisor for U.S. President Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall and Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Republic of Uzbekistan Ibragim Djunusov. The discussion of issues of ensuring stability in Afghanistan and joint efforts for economic recovery during the COVID-19 pandemic were important aspects on the ministers’ agenda. 

In his speech, Minister Tileuberdi stressed the importance of further strengthening the C5+1 dialogue and expanding regional cooperation in such areas as biosafety, trade and investment cooperation, energy partnership, climate change, combating human trafficking and human capital development. As a result of the event, the parties agreed to make efforts to strengthen the C5+1 institution and use this platform to solve common topical problems.

The same day, Kazakh Foreign Minister Tileuberdi held separate bilateral talks with the American delegation headed by Sherwood-Randall. The sides discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral, regional and international agenda, including upcoming contacts at the highest and high levels, the current situation in Afghanistan and the advancement of the inter-Afghan dialogue. It was noted that Kazakhstan and the United States have managed to establish an enhanced strategic partnership in all areas of interaction, including such important areas as global and regional security, the rule of law, democratization, and climate change.

"This year marks the 30th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. We are glad to state that our partnership is developing in a spirit of friendship, trust and mutual respect," Tileuberdi said.
