President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made a video message at the XIV Eurasian Forum KazEnergy. The head of state filed a video message at the global plenary session "World Energy Trilemma 2021 - Balance of Components: Navigating Changes in Energy Regions", which is being held as part of the World Energy Week and the XIV Eurasian Forum KazEnergy.
The President welcomed the holding of World Energy Week, which is being held for the first time in the Central Asian region.
“This week Kazakhstan again became a meeting place for leaders and authorities from 90 countries. On the eve of the COP26 Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, we have gathered to discuss the achieved results and our vision of a common future,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.Speaking about national priorities and commitments in this direction, the Head of State emphasized Kazakhstan's strong commitment to global efforts to combat climate change and the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Along with this, the President expressed the opinion that the world is entering a new phase of development. New technologies dictate a global energy transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, hydrogen and nuclear energy.
“I instructed the Government to increase the share of renewable and alternative energy sources in electricity generation to 15% by 2030. To date, about 2,000 MW of renewable energy sources have been commissioned. Kazakhstan is on the way to this goal. However, a commitment to renewable energy alone is not enough to achieve carbon neutrality,” he said.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev added that in accordance with his policy, the Government is developing a number of national projects that will promote progress in such key areas as energy production, economical energy consumption, digitalization and sustainable economic growth.
“I believe that these developments are of paramount importance, since they will become the “new norm” for doing business and the daily life of billions of people,” the Head of State is convinced.
In conclusion, the President of Kazakhstan noted the uniqueness of the Forum's dialogue platform, which provides leading experts with an excellent opportunity to consider current trends, forecasts and plans designed to help the world achieve the global goal of stopping climate change.
