Head of ADB, Kazakh President discuss future plans

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received the President of the Asian Development Bank Masatsugu Asakawa. During the meeting, held in the videoconference mode, the prospects for cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Asian Development Bank were discussed.The head of state congratulated Masatsugu Asakawa on his election to the post of head of the financial institution, highly appreciating the contribution of ADB to the socio-economic development of Kazakhstan.

"For 27 years of cooperation, ADB has invested almost $ 6 billion in the economy of Kazakhstan. This amount is very impressive, it demonstrates the successful development of our cooperation. We highly value our partnership and intend to maintain long-term and mutually beneficial relations," the President of Kazakhstan stressed.

An important topic of the conversation was the preparation of a new Country Partnership Strategy between Kazakhstan and ADB for 2022-2026."I am confident that the new ADB Strategy for Kazakhstan will fully take into account our national priorities and plans, including a new model of public administration, economic diversification and green growth, balanced territorial development, trade and economic cooperation, digitalization," said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The head of state also informed the head of the ADB about the growth of our country's GDP, anti-inflationary measures, the development of transport and logistics infrastructure, and support for small and medium-sized businesses.

In turn, Masatsugu Asakawa spoke positively about the measures taken in Kazakhstan to counter the pandemic.

“I am aware of the tremendous efforts you are making in the fight against COVID-19. Your Government is implementing successful proactive measures and taking decisive action to contain the virus. We welcome the large-scale package of anti-crisis measures taken by you with a total volume of 9.5% of GDP to mitigate the negative impact of the pandemic on the country's economy and the welfare of the people," said the head of the ADB.
