Extended session of People’s Assembly of Kazakhstan Council kicks off in Nur-Sutlan

The extended session of the Council of the People’s Assembly of Kazakhstan under the chairmanship of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has started in the Kazakh capital.

At the session, representatives of different ethno-cultural associations are expected to discuss the important issues of strengthening of inter-ethnic consent and new tasks which the Assembly is facing. Present-day global and regional challenges stimulate further strengthening of unity of all Kazakhstanis. The national model of polyethnic relations becomes the shield to counteract new threats. Multi-ethnic neighborhood has formed a unique type of world outlook and the Assembly played a significant role in that process. The People’s Assembly not only supports the national cultural traditions but also helps maintain interstate ties.

The composition of the Council of the People’s Assembly of Kazakhstan was updated on June 9, 2021. Now it consists of 76 members, including the representatives of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Office of the First President-Elbasy, ministers of information and social development, culture and sport, education and science, akims (mayors) of the cities of Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Shymkent, akims (heads) of regions who also serve as the chairmen of the regional offices of the People’s Assembly. 10 members of the Council represent the Majilis, the lower chamber of the Kazakh Parliament, and two members are deputies of the Senate.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed the Ministry of Education and Science to study the world experience of multilingualism and transfer it to the educational facilities of the country.

«School graduates must be integrated in the Kazakhstani society, they must be competitive. And for that, they must know the State language, their national language, and ideally the Russian language. Basically, more languages our children know, the better off they’ll be,» said Tokayev at the extended session of the Council of the People’s Assembly of Kazakhstan Noting that children should not be limited to one language, the Kazakh President called on the Ministry of Education and Science to study the world experience of multilingualism and transfer it to the country. Notably, an extended session of the Council of the People’s Assembly of Kazakhstan under the chairmanship of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has begun its work in the Kazakh capital.

While addressing the extended session of the Council of the People’s Assembly of Kazakhstan, the Head of State pointed out that the Assembly has indeed become an effective tool in strengthening the nation’s unity and managed to bring together all citizens around the idea of common statehood. Thanks to the People’s Assembly, Kazakhstan has obtained an effective mechanism of preventing politicization of the ethnic issues, President Tokayev said. Moreover, according to the Head of State, Kazakhstan had proved that all forecasts made by political experts on potential inter-ethnic conflicts in the country at the dawn of its independence were baseless.

The People’s Assembly of Kazakhstan has undoubtedly played a significant role by becoming the institute of common solidarity and the symbol of people’s unity. President Tokayev went on to praise the People's Assembly for its patriotic role as it had always attached huge importance to the promotion of the state language and its status in Kazakhstan. Recall that the extended session of the Council of the People’s Assembly of Kazakhstan started in virtual format in the Kazakh capital, Nur-Sultan.
