Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in his Address to the people of Kazakhstan stated that it is necessary to move away from the super-presidential form of government in the country, Kazpravda.kz correspondent reports.

"We need well-considered steps to reorganize the political model of Kazakhstan's development. First of all, we are talking about the final transition from a super-presidential form of government to a presidential republic with a strong Parliament," the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan said.

Tokayev noted that such a system would provide an optimal balance of power institutions and would contribute to the sustainable development of the country.

"As I said, a super- presidential model of government has developed in Kazakhstan. At the initial stage of the country's development, it was justified, and not only at the initial stage. For 30 years, it was largely justified. But we are not standing still, society and the country are changing. Our political system must constantly adapt to new realities. Today, literally everything in our country revolves around the President, and this is wrong. We need to gradually move away from this practice. The long-term interests of the state are more important to me than any additional levers of power and situational influence," the Head of State added.

According to Tokayev, the rejection of excessive presidential powers will be an important factor that will ensure the irreversibility of political modernization in the country.

"The proposed initiatives will fundamentally change the 'rules of the game' and form a solid foundation for further democratization of our society," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev concluded.
