Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received Deborah Lyons, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan.
During the meeting, prospects for the development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UN within the framework of international efforts to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan, provide humanitarian assistance and socio-economic recovery of this country were discussed.
The President emphasized Kazakhstan's unwavering commitment to continuing all-round cooperation with the international community in the field of combating terrorism and extremism, providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan and continuing educational programs for Afghan students.
In turn, Deborah Lyons informed the Head of State about the efforts made by UNAMA to restore Afghanistan, as well as about the results of the second meeting of the EU and Central Asia Special Representatives on Afghanistan held yesterday in Almaty.
The high-ranking UN representative expressed special gratitude to the country's leadership for supporting the activities of the UN mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
In accordance with the agreements reached, the temporarily remote office of UNAMA is located in Almaty. An appropriate agreement on the status of this mission in Kazakhstan will be signed in the near future.
