Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with the head of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
During the meeting, the heads of state thoroughly discussed topical issues of the multifaceted Kazakh-Russian strategic partnership. Particular attention was paid to strengthening trade, economic and investment cooperation.
Welcoming Vladimir Putin, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted the successful development of bilateral relations.
"Indeed, Kazakhstan and Russia have a strategic partnership. This year we are celebrating a very important date - the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance was signed 30 years ago. In 2013, this Treaty was supplemented by a new document on allied relations between our countries, which was signed by you. Therefore, the basis is very good," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
The leader of Kazakhstan expressed satisfaction with the development of the dynamics of trade and economic cooperation, pointing to serious results in industrial cooperation. He noted that last year the volume of trade amounted to $24.5 billion. According to the Head of State, according to this indicator, Russia ranks first among the partners of Kazakhstan.
In addition, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted the active interaction within the framework of international organizations, including through the UN and other international institutions.
"This year, Kazakhstan chairs the CIS. A CIS summit will be held in October. We very much count on your personal participation. Moreover, Russia plays an important role in the Commonwealth of Independent States. This is indeed a priority area of cooperation in the international format," he said.
The President of Kazakhstan focused on the issues of further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the context of modern geopolitical realities.
"The specifics of the geopolitical situation prompts us to need to "synchronize watches" in order to possibly give additional instructions to governments. They successfully interact with each other. Life suggests new tasks that need to be addressed. In general, we have every reason to be satisfied how our cooperation is developing. I agree with you in this regard. We are united by a common border - the longest land border in the world, which is completely delimited. Of course, there are no grounds for making pessimistic forecasts regarding the future of our cooperation ! Personally, as the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, I am determined to give additional momentum to our bilateral cooperation in all areas," the leader of Kazakhstan stressed.
In turn, the President of Russia, welcoming Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Sochi, expressed gratitude for accepting his invitation.
Russia is in first place among the trade and economic partners of Kazakhstan. We have good developments in major projects, work in high-tech areas, including in space. In general, work is moving quite actively in all areas, in a positive way. I am very glad that our meeting, of course, gives an additional impetus to the development of our trusting strategic partnership,” the Russian leader stressed.
