
The head of state, who is on a working trip to Almaty, visited the Center for the Study of Materials of Political Repressions of the 20th Century.
During the visit to Kassym-Jomart, Tokayev got acquainted with the conditions for storing documents, the work of the offices for the restoration and microfilming of archival documents.
The head of state was also presented with an exposition on working with materials on the history of political repressions of the last century.
By presidential decree in November 2020, the State Commission for the Complete Rehabilitation of Victims of Political Repressions of the 20th Century was established. In order to provide archival support for the work of the State Commission, the Center for the Study of Materials of Political Repressions of the 20th Century was opened in 2021.
Archival materials on the history of political repressions of the 30-50s of the 20th century from the special archives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the KNB, the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan will be transferred to the center. It is planned that in the near future the center will accept about 715,000 cases. Also, work is being carried out here to declassify and restore documents, and conditions have been created for their research and introduction into scientific circulation.
Currently, a group of historians and employees of the center is preparing for publication the multi-volume “Alashorda Isi. 1920-1940 LiveJournal. Kuzhattar men materialdar". This edition will expand the scientific horizon of the political history of Kazakhstan in the twentieth century. In total, 1 million 132 thousand cases are stored in the funds of the center.
