The Ombudsman presented Kassym-Jomart Tokayev with an annual report on the restoration and protection of citizens' rights.

“Human Rights Commissioner Artur Lastaev informed the territorial representatives about the full launch; reported that last year the Ombudsman received more than 5 thousand complaints, which is 1.5 times higher than in 2022; reported on the work of the national preventive mechanism, improvement of legislation, intensification of international cooperation and interaction with human rights organizations and civil society,” Akorda reports .

In particular, more than a thousand preventive visits to prevent torture were carried out; Over 3.5 thousand recommendations for the restoration of rights were made, and 275 officials were brought to justice. As a result, the rights of more than 900 people were protected.

Lastaev also spoke about the measures taken to implement the president’s instructions to prevent domestic violence. The human rights institute is also developing a special report on combating domestic violence.

“Kassym-Jomart Tokayev pointed out the need to further strengthen guarantees for the protection of human rights,” the report notes.
