GDP in CIS countries in January - April, 2009 decreased by 9%

    GDP in CIS countries decreased by 9 in January - April, 2009 in comparison with the same period of last year, Kazakhstan Today reports citing the CIS Interstate Statistics Committee.
    According to the Statistics Committee, industrial production in the CIS countries in January - April 2009 dropped by 16 %. The transportation of cargo by the transport enterprises (not taking into account pipelines) decreased by 20%.
    Retail commodity trade in real terms decreased by 3%, price indexes for the manufacturers of industrial goods went down 4%.
    Consumer price indexes grew a 14%, a press release from the CIS Statistics Committee states.
    "The volume of industrial production in the Commonwealth has decreased for more than six months in a row. Industrial production in January - April 2009, compared to January - April 2008, on average, in the Commonwealth dropped by 16% (in January - April, 2008 it increased 7%)," the press release stated, according to Kazakhstan Today.
