Kazakhstan’s Controlling Party Suggests Banning Companies from Offshore Zones

22.06.2009
On Friday during the 9th session of the Republican Social Council on Struggle Against Corruption at the People's Democratic Party Nur Otan, Mirbulat Kunbayev, president of the Association Club of Editors-in-Chief, proposed that Kazakhstan cease to deal with companies registered in known offshore zones, saying that corrupt officials skillfully use the flaws in the current legislation.
He stated, "Now, Europe is pursuing a campaign against the states providing offshore zones and tax indulgences that often hide tax evasion and illicit export of the capital received illegally. Kazakhstan also needs to think of banning the participation in the offshore companies, first of all, in state purchasing," according to Kazakhstan Today.
