Kyrgyz Officials seek Bakiyev's Extradition

27.04.2010
The interim authorities in Kyrgyzstan have called for deposed President Kurmanbek Bakiyev to be extradited from Belarus to face trial for allegedly sanctioning gunfire on a crowd of protesters.
Mr. Bakiyev fled Kyrgyzstan after being overthrown amid violent clashes between government troops and demonstrators on April 7. At least 85 people were killed in the chaos. The ousted leader has taken refuge in Belarus.
Kyrgyzstan's interim government adviser Dzhoomart Saparbayev said officials adopted a resolution Monday stripping Mr. Bakiyev of his authority and presidential immunity, and promising extradition efforts.
The security service said Monday it had arrested the former interior minister on unspecified charges, according to the Associated Press.
