Kazakhstan to toughen Operations Standards for Caspian Sea Production

07.06.2010
The Kazakhstan government will toughen operational standards for the Caspian Sea shelf, President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, said at the 23rd session of the Foreign Investors Council in Almaty, Kazakhstan Today reports.
"The recent example (of the need to toughen requirements – KNL) is the accident in the Gulf of Mexico. The world has learned that banal equipment defects can turn into such a catastrophic event," Nazarbayev noted.
"We can not allow this on the Caspian Sea, otherwise, everything will be destroyed," the head of state stressed.
He said Kazakhstan must pay special attention to quality inspections on imported technology.
"We should pay attention to quality of this equipment, if it is up-to-date, and if it meets the requirements of competitive manufacturing," the President said, according to Kazakhstan Today.
