Kazakhstan gives Chinese Firm Awards as Most Responsible Company – KPO gets Best Social Project

    Kazakhstan’s government on Tuesday awarded 29 companies for their contributions to the country, and a Chinese oil company won one of the two highest medals for its excellent social responsibility performance.
    Xu Keqiang, general manager of the Aktobe Oil and Natural Gas Company in the western Kazakhstan city of Aktobe, received the award from President Nursultan Nazarbayev at a ceremony held at the Kazakhstan Concert Hall.
    The winning company was affiliated with the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China's largest oil and gas producer and supplier, as well as one of the world's major oilfield service providers and a globally reputed contractor in engineering construction.
    Other prizes, including Best Social Project went to Karachaganak Petroleum Operating, and Air Astana won the Best Collective Bargaining Agreement.
    The prizes were given under the competitive basis measured by achievements in quality, services, safety and the introduction of the organization of modern management systems, according to the event organizer Kazakh Ministry of Industry and New Technologies.
    Meanwhile, an industrial projects exhibition was held at the Kazakhstan Concert Hall.
    The projects presented are to be launched in next four years under the National Program for Industrial and Innovation Development from 2010-2014.
    According to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies, the program is designed for economic diversification, increasing economic participation on part of local companies, stimulating small and medium-sized businesses, as well as transitioning the economy to focus on the high-tech industry, Xinhua said.
