LUXOR Ice Rink opens in Almaty

    "I hope this rink will become another favorite resting place of Almaty residents. This is a present to all adherents of a healthy lifestyle and future athletes, on the eve of the Asian Winter Games 2011," the Almaty Akim said at the opening ceremony for the new LUXOR ice skating rink in Almaty.
    More than one thousand athletes fr om 27 countries have confirmed their participation in 7^th Winter Asian Games
    The akim thanked all investors and construction officials who built the arena in a short period of time. Mr. Yesimov said all the new sport facilities built for the Asian Games 2011 would serve city residents upon the completion of the games.
     According to Coach Aigul Kuanysheva, the rink is a great present for all figure-skaters in Almaty.
    Members of the Kazakhstan figure skating team took part in the opening ceremony, including Vancouver Games competitor - Denis Ten, who arrived from the USA wh ere he is preparing for the Asian Games.
    "I was glad to know that such a rink was opened in Almaty. I am happy for all the young figure-skaters of the city," he said, Kazinform writes
