Chogori K2 Ascent to be devoted to 20th Aniversary of Kazakhstan's Idependence

    An international expedition to the Chogori K2 summit has started in Almaty, the Oblast Tourism, Sport and Physical Culture Department has announced.
    This expedition is organized with the support of Almaty Oblast Akim, Ansar Musakhanov and is devoted to 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence.
    This ascent will accomplish the unique sports program called, Kazakhstanis - on the Highest Mountain Peaks of the World.
    Over the past 10 years the best Kazakh alpinists conquered 13 out of 14 world eight- thousand meter peaks.
    K2 is the second-highest mountain on Earth with a peak elevation of 8,611 meters, Kazinform said.
