The joint UNDP/MEP RK Project titled, "Strengthening the capacity in the field of sustainable development through integration of climate change issues into strategic planning in the Republic of Kazakhstan" will hold a workshop called, "Cost-benefit analysis: Methodology and Practical Examples" in Astana on October 19-20, the UNDP in Kazakhstan said.
Economic-based methods are widely used in the evaluation of government programs and projects.
Cost-benefit analysis is among the best known and the most frequently used. This method of assessment of investment needs, socio-economic benefits and the feasibility of measures has become a defining tool for evaluating economic efficiency in the US and European Union.
The workshop is primarily aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge and necessary skills to use methodology in the economic evaluation of anticipated costs and benefits of measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Participants will become familiar with theoretical materials and how they are used globally. They will learn to work with databases and interpret obtained results at practical sessions.
The workshop is being organized for representatives from government agencies, business, the general public and scientific community, Trend said.
