MPs ask President to dissolve Majilis

10.11.2011
Majilis deputies have asked President Nursultan Nazarbayev to dissolve the lower chamber of parliament, KazTag reports.
"In a society actively discussing the need for early parliamentary elections, it should be noted that current law allows the president to dissolve parliament. Therefore, it is advisable not to delay this mechanism to create a multi-party parliament," Majilis Deputy Nurtai Sabilyanov stated at a press conference Thursday.
Under the law of Kazakhstan the president has the right to dissolve the Majilis after consultations with the speakers of both chambers of the parliament and the prime minister.
"This move will symbolize the commitment of Kazakhstan to the ideas of a multiparty system and political pluralism" he added.
"Next year will be the election of deputies to the Majilis and Maslikhats. It is advisable to combine these (dates – KNL) together. This will make possible not to postpone the election cycle during the global crisis. In addition, this measure will significantly reduce costs," said Nurtai Sabilyanov at a press conference on Thursday, KazTag reports.
