President Nazarbayev inaugurates First Section of Almaty Subway

     As part of aworking trip to Almaty, K President Nursultan Nazarbayev took part in the commissioning of the first stage of Almaty subway on Thursday.
    “Today is a really exciting, historic day for our country - the first Kazakhstan’s metro has been put into operation. And this will be recorded in the annals of our country. Even in times of crisis, I did not stop the funding for this facility,” he said.
     “This is an environmentally-friendly type of transport. It will meet all safety standards, including those to resist earthquakes. 300 bus routes will be eliminated - emissions will be lowered and the air will become cleaner. And the main thing is that this part of the formation of a new modern transportation culture,” Nazarbayev stressed.
    The Almaty metro is a unique facility, being put into operation for the first time in Kazakhstan, and it is among the most complex engineering systems in the country, Kazinform wrote.
