Kazakhstan unblocks LiveJournal

06.12.2011
Access to the popular LiveJournal blogging service has become available for surfers in Kazakhstan Sunday.
The website can now be accessed freely, without anonimizers, Internet-users say.
Access to LiveJournal was closed for Internet users in Kazakhstan this August. At the time, Kazakhstan’s authorities blocked access to over 20 Internet resources suspected of promoting terrorism and extremism and spreading calls for terrorist attacks.
In September, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Communications and Information announced it was ready to unblock LiveJournal only after banned content was deleted.
In the end of October, Kazakhstan’s General Prosecutor's Office stated it had detected 400 websites containing extremist materials.
Access was blocked to 150 of these within the country, www.tengrinews.kz said.
