New oil and gas fields expected in east Kazakhstan

    New oil and gas fields are expected to be discovered in thre Eastern Kazakhstan Oblast, National Geological Exploration Company Kazgeology's Board Chairman Bulat Uzhkenov said on the sidelines of the Third International MINEX -2012 Forum in Astana today.
    "Based on the latest geological prospecting studies, we have grounds for the discovery of new fields with gas and heavy oil in the Eastern Kazakhstan region," Uzhkenov said.
    He reminded those present that traditionally major oil and gas fields have been concentrated in the west of the country.
    "There are specific plans for the discovery of new fields in Zailiysky region (south Kazahstanan)," he added, according to Trend.
