Kazakh-U.S. parliamentary-congressional cooperation discussed in Astana

Chairman of the Majilis Nurlan Nigmatulin has met with a U.S. congressional delegation led by Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and Eurasia of the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Foreign Affairs Dan Burton on Monday, a Majilis press message said.
Speaking of the Kazakh-American relations in general, the two sides noted the strategic character of cooperation between the two countries.
Nigmatulin stressed the exceptional role of President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in achieving a high level of mutual understanding between Kazakhstan and the United States on matters of international stability, nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation, fight against international terrorism and extremism.
The two sides also discussed cooperation between the Majilis and the U.S. Congress. They expressed confidence the further development of relations between the higher legislative bodies would strengthen partnership between the two states.
The Majilis formed a group for cooperation with parliamentarians of the United States of America, which consists of 26 MPs.
The “Club of Friends of Kazakhstan” has been operating in the U.S. Congress since 2008.
The U.S. congressmen noted Kazakhstan’s leading role in Central Asia in economic and political development, according to Kazinform.
