Nazarbayev congratulates Vinokourov on gold medal

    Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev sent a congratulatory message to cyclist Aleksandre Vinokourov, who won a gold medal at London Olympics-2012, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the president’s website.
    “I congratulate you on your brilliant victory in the group race. Your determination and huge will helped you advance through the race and defeat the most powerful competitors. Your solid victory on the first day of the Olympics brought glory to Kazakhstan and once again showed the high level of Kazakhstani cycling sport. You gave a splendid gift to all Kazakhstan citizens and sport fans who watched the race with much interest and excitement. Let this first gold medal for our national team at the 30th Olympic Games become a impetus for our further high-quality victories,” the message states.
    Aleksandre Vinokourov won gold in the group race on July 28, on the first day of 2012Olypmpics-.
    He later announced his retirement. It is unclear as of yet whether he will take part in the individual race, www.tengrinews.kz said.
