Mami reviews Central Asian security with NATO Parliamentary Assembly Chair

    Senate Speaker Kairat Mami has held talks with the Chairman of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Karl Lamers, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the Kazakhstan Senate as announcing.
    “The participants in the meeting exchanged opinions on enhancing security in Central Asia and the activities of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan,” the news message writes.
    “Kazakhstan supports an active and large-scale assistance of all countries for the implementation of reforms in Afghanistan,” Mami said at the meeting, while noting that Kazakhstan will admit 1,000 Afghan students to its higher education institutions under a special education program. $50 million has been allocated for this program.
    Lamers spoke highly of Kazakhstan’s contribution to international activities for the restoration of Afghanistan.
    Mami added Kazakhstan attaches special importance to the development of multi-dimensional and diversified cooperation with NATO.
    He noted the success of interaction in the modernization of military forces and military education to comply with NATO standards, the implementation of joint projects toward demilitarization and the enhancement of emergency civil planning.
    Kazakhstan’s parliamentary delegation has an observer status and permanently takes part in the annual sessions of NATO Parliamentary Assembly and various events of the organization, www.tengrinews.kz states.
