10.09.2012
New York City has hosted a special session of the General Assembly with the assistance of Kazakhstan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations as a follow-up of the anti-nuclear forum in Astana.
In his video message, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on the participants of the special meeting to immediately accede to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty as well as to follow the example of Kazakhstan and support the complete renunciation and disposal of weapons of mass destruction.
Randy Rydell, Senior Expert at the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs, said that the issue on the agenda is not only the completion of nuclear testing as all of this is part of the path that leads to the complete abandonment of nuclear weapons, so he actively encouraged everyone to solve this problem. Mr Rydell also noted the outstanding leadership qualities of Kazakhstan which attracted global attention to this problem, Caspionet wrote.
