Kazakhs dominate freestyle-wrestling tournament

130 freestyle wrestlers from Georgia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Mongolia, Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan September 30-October 1 competed in a tournament honouring the centennial of the late Kazakhstani Soviet-era political leader Dinmukahmaed Kunayev.

The Freestyle Wrestling Federation of Zhambyl Oblast organised the contest, offering prizes of US $5,000 (751,000 KZT) to the champions and US $1,000 (150,000 KZT) to their coaches.
Kazakhstani wrestlers were well represented in the medal count. Zhambyl Oblast’s Ruslan Seksembayev won gold in the 55kg event, while Nursultan Naizabekov (Zhambyl Oblast) and Kairyzhan Beisebayev (Western Kazakhstan Oblast) took bronze. In the 60kg event, Astana’s Sayatbek Okasov took gold, defeating Zhambyl Oblast’s Alpamys Supogaliyev. Nasibulla Kubonov (Uzbekistan) took one of the two bronze medals in that weight class.
In the 66kg event, Azamat Omirzhanov (Atyrau) took silver, while Ulukman Mamatov (Kyrgyzstan) won one of the two bronzes. In the 74kg event, all four medallists were Central Asian: Nurlan Bekzhanov, Western Kazakhstan Oblast, gold; Aslan Azizov, Zhambyl Oblast, silver; Somirsho Vakhidov, Tajikistan, and Tsotne Baramidze, Karaganda city, both bronze.
In the 84kg event, Islam Aszizov (Zhambyl Oblast) and Aslan Kakhidze (Almaty Oblast) won silver and one of the two bronzes, respectively. In the 96kg event, Taimuraz Tigriyev (a North Ossetian native who wrestles for Kazakhstan) and Zhumagali Mamutov (South Kazakhstan Oblast) won gold and one of the two bronzes, respectively.
And in the 120kg event, Bakhtiar Sultanbek (Zhambyl Oblast) and Oleg Boltin (Eastern Kazakhstan Oblast) won silver and one of the two bronzes, respectively, according to Central Asia Online.
