About 1,000 armed forces from Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states will participate in the “Unbreakable Brotherhood 2012” counter-terrorism exercises in Kazakhstan October 8-17, Spokeswoman for the commander of the Kazakhstani Air Mobile Troops Ryskul Tagayeva told Central Asia Online.
The exercise will take place on three training grounds in the Almaty Oblast. As part of the scenario, people portraying terrorists will attack a military base checkpoint and retreat to a village, after which the troops will respond to free the village, Tagayeva said.
Kazakhstan will have the largest contingent, 535 troops, in the exercise, while Russia and Kyrgyzstan will supply 160 and more than 50 participants, respectively. Armenia, Belarus and Tajikistan will each send 30 troops, Central Asia Online said.
