Architect suggests putting a dome over Astana
01.11.2012
An architect from Astana Yevgeniy Nevelichkov has suggested erecting a transparent dome over Astana’s left bank area, Express K writes. According to the architect, this will help neutralize the disadvantages of the sharply continental climate.
The architect believes the construction of this dome will fully resolve the problem of cold and attract millions of tourists to Astana.
“Such a dome could work as a giant greenhouse,” the architect said. “The construction of a dome with a diameter of 1.5-2 km will make it feasible to cover nearly all major buildings of the left bank of Astana. Astana could become a blossoming garden with an average temperature of 20 degrees Centigrade.” According to Nevelichko, construction of the dome would cost $1 billion.
A similar project had been suggested in Houston, Texas.
If completed, the huge Houstan dome would protect city from hurricanes and heat, and would be made of fluoro-plastic.
It will be 0.5 km high with a diameter of 1.5 km. The proposal suggests it cover the downtown, green areas and elite housing, www.tengrinews.kz states.
