Kazakhstan applies to UN Asia-Pacific Group Human Rights Council

Kazakhstan has applied for membership in the Human Rights Council of the United Nations Asia-Pacific Group, BNews.kz reports.
Voting will take place today, November 12, at the 67 session of the General Assembly. The Council membership is open to all UN member states that were elected by a majority vote of the UN General Assembly by direct secret ballot.
Kazakhstan announced its candidature to the Human Rights Council for 2013-2015.
The Human Rights Council UN was established on March 15, 2006. It is the leading international body for the protection of human rights, replacing the Commission on Human Rights. The Council consists of 47 countries, elected on the basis of equitable geographical distribution, according to CA-News.
