Ablyazov hiding in Switzerland – French media
15.02.2013
Former chairman of BTA Bank, Mukhtar Ablyazov, who was sentenced to 22 months in jail for contempt of court by the British High Court is most probably in Switzerland, Inopressa writes, citing the French media.
Ablyazov was sentenced to prison last February. He fled England after hearing of the court’s intention to jail him. The law firm Addleshaw Goddard which is representing Ablyazov, is keeping its client’s whereabouts secret.
BTA Bank’s lawyers however, suggest Ablyazov fled to France. They say Ablyazov left Great Britain at about the same time the court ordered his arrest.
“It is likely he left by coach and that he used the passport that he had failed to deliver upon court order. It is unknown whether he remains in France,” BTA Bank’s barrister said.
