Kazakhstani security forces on March 28 arrested suspected members of an organised-crime group accused of smuggling weapons from Kyrgyzstan, Zakon.kz reported on March 29.
Authorities took into custody two Kazakhstani men, which were Dauren Rakhmadiyev, 30, an alleged Almaty crime boss.
They also seized an AK-74 and a sawed-off Saiga M-3 carbine, authorities said.
Police are determining whether they can link the detainees, who both have criminal records, to other crimes.
Anti-organised crime police, the National Security Committee, and the Arlan special force co-operated in making the arrests, Central Asia Online said.
