17.05.2013
On May 13-14, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Erlan Idrissov, paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Spain.
During the visit, Idrissov met King Juan Carlos I, Senate President Pio Garcia Escudero, President of the Congress of Deputies Jesus Posada, Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo, and heads of leading Spanish companies.
The main topics of discussions held by Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister included the further deepening of trade and investment cooperation and attraction of new technologies and investments into Kazakhstan’s economy.
At the meeting with King Juan Carlos I, Idrissov noted that, being a country located in the heart of Eurasia, Kazakhstan would like to borrow Spanish experience in developing infrastructure and implementing transport and communications projects.
Many prominent Spanish companies, including Talgo, Airbus Military, and other industry giants, are now in Kazakhstan.
The minister also confirmed the previously-voiced invitation by President Nursultan Nazarbayev to the King of Spain to come Astana on a state visit.
Juan Carlos said he had gratefully accepted the invitation and would like to pay a visit to Kazakhstan when his schedule allows it.
He also highlighted the leading role of Kazakhstan in Central Asia, noting that Spain hopes for the assistance from the country to promote its relations with other countries in the region, according to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
